Who We Are

As a professional and certified Regenerative Gardener, certified Soil Advocate, and certified Master Composter, I believe healthy gardens and landscapes begin with rebuilding the soil using mostly native plant species. Supporting ecosystem biodiversity and protecting pollinators, without using chemical pesticides or fertilizers, is the foundation of my practice. The quality and vitality of our landscape is a direct reflection of healthy soil and intentional care.

My journey in gardening began more than 20 years ago with my own garden. Over the years I’ve refined my gardening and design experience to evolve with a changing ecological awareness. As a lifelong Coloradan, I have a keen understanding of our unique environment. My priority is protecting our precious ecosystems from the ground up one garden at a time. Inviting resiliency into our urban and suburban landscapes is essential to balancing our expanding land development and resource losses. I’m passionate about helping clients discover the beauty and importance of regenerative gardening practices while working with holistic concepts to create their vision of a space they want to be in and grow in.

Education and building community are important components of what I do. Teaching regenerative gardening classes to local community organizations, supporting local environmental conferences and symposiums, and hosting regenerative habitat garden tours are integral pieces of my business. Honeywood proudly donates a portion of our proceeds to non profit organizations promoting native plants, pollinators, and land restoration.

As a Denver native, she understands Colorado's climate, soils, and native plant communities firsthand, creating landscapes that are designed to thrive, not simply survive.

Sara Schlabach - Lead Installer & Garden Management

Sara has been with Honeywood since we first put down our roots. As our Lead Project Installer, she brings every garden design to life with skill, passion, and unwavering dedication.

Sara is a certified Master Gardener and Master Composter with a background in community-based organizations. She previously served as Program and Garden Director at EarthLinks, where she led programming centered around cultivation, stewardship, and connection. She also volunteered in the Sensory Garden at the Denver Art Museum during its first two seasons.

Beyond the garden, Sara is a real estate agent with Freedle and Associates. She has always been drawn to the intersection of people, housing, and community. Sara believes that the spaces we inhabit shape how we live and connect.

When she’s not building gardens or supporting clients, you’ll find her at Zumba, rollerblading, hiking, or singing with the Denver Chorale.

Abi Sanchez - Landscape Construction Expert

With more than 20 years of experience in the landscape industry, Abi brings a wealth of knowledge, craftsmanship, and leadership to every project. Abi and his crew specialize in demolition, lawn removal, irrigation, and the installation of the larger structural elements that bring our designs to life.

His expertise includes hardscaping, stonework, patios, pathways, retaining walls, and fencing. Beyond his exceptional craftsmanship, Abi shares our commitment to regenerative landscaping practices, water conservation, and rebuilding native habitat. His dedication to creating beautiful, functional outdoor spaces helps ensure every project supports both people and the environment.

Dawn Jaitrong - Installer & Garden Management

Dawn discovered her passion for gardening in 2021 while interning with Blossom & Branch Farm, where she developed a deep appreciation for getting her hands dirty in the soil and nurturing the gardens. Since then, she has grown into a dedicated regenerative gardener known for her proactive communication, precision, and keen attention to detail.

Dawn holds a Rocky Mountain Gardening Certificate from the Denver Botanic Gardens. Outside of the garden, she enjoys walking, hiking, photography, and reading.

Preston became interested in ecological landscaping after hearing an interview with Doug Tallamy on his book, Nature’s Best Hope. That interest was applied when he replaced hundreds of square feet of turf grass with water-wise and pollinator-friendly plants, shrubs, and trees. The joy of seeing butterflies and hummingbirds visit his Capitol Hill property led to volunteering with environmental non-profits and learning about the vital work of organizations like People & Pollinators Action Network.

Preston has a Rocky Mountain Gardening Certificate from the Denver Botanic Gardens, is a Community Forester with The Park People, and a volunteer with Wildlands Restoration Volunteers. When he's not digging around in the dirt, he's often riding his bike and dropping off environmental books in Little Free Libraries.

Kevin Person - Installer

Kevin has always loved nature and felt most at home the woods and mountains of Colorado. His first interest came from the moment he realized that the Earth is what sustains us all. He will scour books, scientific studies, plant databases, and any other resource for fun. Native plants are one of his many passions, among his favorites are Castilleja integra, Prunus bessei, Clematis ligusticifolia, and populus tremuloides. If it involves plants, Kevin is vastly interested. He has his Certificate in Herbalism through Herbalism Roots, a part of the Denver Integrated Medicine School and adores to formulate salves, gylcerites, brews, lotions and potions of all kinds. He is currently working with perfumery both solid and liquid, wildcrafting at any available opportunity.

Kevin has worked as the Garden Director at Earthlinks since 2023. His background in growing plants is self taught through many years of study and over 13+ years gardening in Colorado. His dream is to grow native plants at scale and get more involved in restoration work for plains, montane, foothills and riparian ecosystems, as well as, to transform public spaces into gracious habitat, for humans and all the creatures that share space with us, that can withstand climate change.
